Cover blurb:
Book:
Meet Mulder and Scully, FBI. The agency maverick and the
female agent assigned to keep him in line.
Their job: investigate the eeriest unsolved mysteries in
modern America, from pyro-psychics to death row demonics, from
rampaging Sasquatches to alien invasions. The cases
the Bureau wants handled quietly, but quickly, before the
public finds out what's really out there. And panics.
The cases filed under "X."
Official Site:
Special Agent Fox Mulder is saddened when his old friend's cousin loses her
fiance in a brutal murder. But it isn't a case he can get involved in. That
is, until it turns out his old friend's cousin has friends in high places,
including the U.S. Senate.
Mulder and his partner, along with two rookie agents, travel to New Jersey's
Fort Dix to investigate the death. But as they talk to the residents of
nearby Marville, the story only becomes stranger. The body count multiplies,
and all anyone has seen are shadows, ghosts, visions - and a tree that grew
an arm in order to kill.
But under the thin veneer of mystery lies a conspiracy far more sinister
than stories of goblins. Government operatives are conducting experiments at
Fort Dix, experiments they don't want the public to know about. And as
Mulder and Scully get closer to uncovering the truth about the government's
Project, their own lives and the lives of their young colleagues are in
danger.
